Instead of selling an extra standalone hub with the appliance, an OEM can use the Afero Platform and convert an existing edge node to a hub. Air conditioners, water heaters, air purifiers, ventilation systems, air deodorizers, and more can be fitted with Bluetooth® low energy technology (BLE) or Wi‑Fi/BLE combo radio modules from Afero.
The edge-to-cloud Afero IoT Platform, integrated with D-Link hubs and sensors, can be placed in a home or retail location. The hub supports Wi-Fi for the back-end connection to the cloud. The hub communicates with sensors using Bluetooth low energy, which allows for lower cost battery-powered sensors.
When sensors detect dangers or abnormal activity, they notify all the stakeholders: homeowner, facility occupant, insurance company, landlord, and/or property managers. Sensor data, including notifications and alerts, can be easily integrated with back-end systems, such as claims processing, to improve decision making.
The data collected can enable, for example, predictive analytics, which can then be performed as a mashup with weather forecasts to drive appropriate preventative measures.
Easily retrofit Afero enabled sensors into existing industrial equipment to deploy monitoring solutions. For example, pressure sensors and RPM counters can be attached to forklifts.
