Instead of selling an extra standalone hub with the appliance, an OEM can use the Afero Platform and convert an existing edge node to a hub. Air conditioners, water heaters, air purifiers, ventilation systems, air deodorizers, and more can be fitted with Bluetooth® low energy technology (BLE) or Wi‑Fi/BLE combo radio modules from Afero.

The edge-to-cloud Afero IoT Platform, integrated with D-Link hubs and sensors, can be placed in a home or retail location. The hub supports Wi-Fi for the back-end connection to the cloud. The hub communicates with sensors using Bluetooth low energy, which allows for lower cost battery-powered sensors.

When sensors detect dangers or abnormal activity, they notify all the stakeholders: homeowner, facility occupant, insurance company, landlord, and/or property managers. Sensor data, including notifications and alerts, can be easily integrated with back-end systems, such as claims processing, to improve decision making.

The data collected can enable, for example, predictive analytics, which can then be performed as a mashup with weather forecasts to drive appropriate preventative measures.

Easily retrofit Afero enabled sensors into existing industrial equipment to deploy monitoring solutions. For example, pressure sensors and RPM counters can be attached to forklifts. These sensors can then securely transmit real-time data to an Afero Secure Hub, which in turn can transmit it to the Afero Cloud.

Industrial equipment with legacy communication schemes, such as dry contact closure interfaces, RS232, RS485, and Modbus®, can also be easily and securely bridged to the cloud using Afero, providing a simple path for extracting intelligence from legacy machines that were never designed for internet connectivity.

Granular analytics around equipment use, wear of equipment, load carried, and more can be performed, unlocking the benefits of monitoring.

Smart sensor packages for trucking applications can be Afero enabled to provide real-time data. Uses range from automotive sensors in the truck to application-specific sensors for specialized trailers, such as livestock trailer packages that monitor air flow, humidity, temperature, and ventilation during transport.

Well-placed sensors at critical points in beer serving equipment can measure parameters such as temperature, liquid flow, tap wear & tear, effectiveness of cleaning routines, and more. This data can be integrated into inventory systems, equipment servicing routines, and even digitized menus, all for the purpose of harnessing the information to reduce operational costs, improve product management, and even create a more loyal customer base.

Patient data can be automatically entered into patient systems, saving hours of manual work and reducing human error. Vital statistics can be monitored at more frequent intervals without requiring nurses’ time, thus increasing efficiency at the medical facility. Clinical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, and ECG machines can have the Afero radio module built into them. A dedicated Wi-Fi/cellular Afero Smart Hub (or a smartphone) can receive data from the edge devices and transmit the data to the cloud.

Afero has built an elegant end-to-end platform solution that solves a real problem for companies struggling to set-up, deploy, and manage IoT at scale.
